GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):

Group Leaders will be responsible for interacting with the children in a positive manner and lead student activities, supervise Assistant Group Leaders, clean up and upkeep of the Extended Day space.  

QUALIFICATIONS:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • At least age 18 or above (work permit required if necessary)
  • High School Diploma
  • 6 Months experience working with children, including 3 months’ experience at a licensed school age program
  • A sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
  • Desire to promote the growth and development of students.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision of the students 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree and 3 months working with school age children

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):

 

  • Directly engage with students through conversation, and participation in group activities
  • Supervise students at all times and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement,a dn general well-being.
  • Understand and adhere to all program policies
  • Utilize positive behavior management techniques
  • Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for students
  • Assist the Site Coordinator with execution of age-appropriate activities on a daily basis
  • Implement activities such as cooking, art, science, music, and drama with large or small groups of children 
  • Assist in the general preparation and housekeeping of the environment
  • Identifies and meets student physical and emotional needs and facilitates a positive before/after school experience
  • Prepares ahead of time for daily activities to ensure timeliness of schedule
  • Assists in managing the daily routine that includes both indoor and outdoor activities, projects, games, homework, special interest groups and dramatic play
  • Attend all staff meetings and mandatory training sessions including CPR and First Aid
  • Maintain close communication with parents, speaking with them daily about their child whether positive or negative including during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Knows all students names in the first month and is able to identify something positive about every child
  • Has a flexible and adaptable approach to develop or change activities to meet the needs of children
  • Assists in the general housekeeping of the room; including ordered arrangement, appearance and decor
  • Assists in maintaining order within the groups at all times, including at snack and activity times.
  • Assisting in the supervision of Assistant Group Leaders and Volunteers.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the school program
  • Promote an atmosphere that encourages healthy and productive play and fosters positive self-esteem in children
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance
  • Assist in writing yearly progress reports on extended day students
  • Treats all children with dignity and respect
  • Is culturally competent and provides inclusive environment for all learners and colleagues
  • Accounts for all students at all times
  • Uses positive behavior management techniques
  • Maintain positive communication with school personnel
  • Leads and manages small groups on field trips
  • This position has a 6 month probationary period
  • Fulfill the required amount of Professional Development
  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for student coverage
  • Other duties as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Work Environment:  


  • Work is performed in school environments and several off site locations (ex: field trips)

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to sit, stand, run, walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to navigate uneven terrain in the form of sand, hills, concrete and woods
  • Must be able to ascend and descend large staircases while carrying an inflatable
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 45 pounds
  • Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
  • Must be able to participate in all student activities

Attire:


  • Group leaders must come to work clean, neat, and with the appropriate attire to work with students in a variety of settings.
  • Group Leaders should wear sneakers or closed-toed shoes to be able to work with students in a variety of learning, sports, and play settings.
