GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):
|
The Assistant Director is responsible for the daily operations, supervision, planning, implementing, administration, and quality development of our school age childcare programs. This position directs and supervises all Site Coordinators along with on-site training of group leaders. This position will serve as the point of contact between the Executive Director, program staff, and program parents. The Assistant Director’s role is to supervise and provide additional mentoring, guidance, and support for the Site coordinators, Group Leaders, Assistant Leaders, and program participants of NEDP. The Assistant Director will model the vision and mission of the Public Schools of Northborough.

QUALIFICATIONS:
|
Job Qualifications:
- Two or more years of school age childcare program experience at the Site Coordinator level
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Child Development, ECE or a related field is preferred
- At least one year of administrative experience including managing teams
- Strong knowledge of state licensing rules and regulations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and people skills including warm concise written and verbal communication
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Demonstrates professionalism with staff, parents/guardians, and participants, including an outward patience in challenging and/or stressful interactions, including conflict resolution
- Demonstrated ability to create and manage programmatic infrastructure and internal systems
- Strong management experience
- The capacity to work independently and to take initiative on a variety of tasks and unknown situations
- The ability to maintain professional boundaries
- The ability to empathize with others
- Calm under pressure, customer service-oriented, flexible, and possessing a good sense of humor
Additional requirements:
- Complete personnel file with the proper documentation required by DESE, including background checks (CORI, DCF, SORI and fingerprinting) and physical examination requirements.
- CPR/First Aid certified

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
|
Essential Functions/Job Duties:
- Responsible for assisting to communicate workplace expectations for staff, providing feedback and problem-solving with staff as needed
- Cultivates and maintains a supportive workplace environment for all staff
- Available to work whenever the program is in session, on early release days, and vacation weeks
- Assists the Executive Director in developing and maintaining high-quality before and after-school care programming.
- Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and scheduling of new hires
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.
- Maintain a safe environment for all participants and supports core values of the program and District
- Cultivate and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, children, and parents/guardians
- Ability to assess and strategize appropriate behavioral management plans for children and to work with their families
- Use a growth mindset to supervise, mentor, and support the Site Coordinators
- Assists the Executive Director in staff supervision and training, including facilitating team meetings
- Conduct performance evaluations for Site Coordinators
- Builds and communicates weekly staff schedules to ensure appropriate ratios are always intact and labor is effectively managed to budget, including review and verification of timesheets
- Collaborate with district personnel to oversee the children’s medications
- Assists with program registrations
- Collaborate with HR for employee contract letters to each new/rehire employee
- Resource special day activities for early release days and vacation weeks
- Orders supplies as needed
- Serves as Acting Director when the Director is not available
- Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a school environment before, during, and after the school day.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, and support substantial weight (approximately 15 to 50lbs.) with their arms.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close-up vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud. Job requires elevated levels of alertness and concentration.
- Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building.
