GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):

Under direction of the school principal(s), plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. 

 

Candidates must possess considerable depth of knowledge of strings music education.  Position is responsible for classes, as well as performances at special occasions that may occur during the course of the year, and participation in district events. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned strings music experiences and performs other duties directly related to this job description.

QUALIFICATIONS:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

        

  • Minimum BA in Music or Music Education 
  • Strong strings musical skills
  • Appropriate DESE teaching license or ability to obtain DESE teaching license 
  • Ability to work with elementary strings musicians at all skill levels 
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
  • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum
  • Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use technology effectively

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):


  • Teaches strings music to all elementary grades including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble. 
  • Differentiate strings music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body. 
  • Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. 
  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation if needed.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and student learning objectives.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives clearly to all students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances. 
  • Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute. 
  • Establish and communicate learning targets for all learning activities
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students. 
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. 
  • Cooperation with principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
  • Appraises his/her own effectiveness and demonstrates successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Participates in school management and shares responsibility for the total school program.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Performs other duties as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily controlled temperature and clean classroom environment. Exposure to outside elements may occur during transitions, field trips, and recess.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. The teaching environment requires light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently or to move objects; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
